In 1972, we partnered with Mrs. Martha Hughes and became the Hughes & Shumake Funeral Home located in the Parkland community. After the partnership dissolved, in 1974, we were incorporated as Shumake Funeral Home in the state of Kentucky.

In 1975, to further expand our services to the public, we envisioned opening a funeral home in the Newburg area and put the plan in motion. The dream of husband and wife team Rev. William T. and Doris H. Shumake after looking around the area purchased the property at 3815 Newburg Road and the vision started becoming a reality.

Traditionally, funeral home establishments were all located in the downtown area. A very limited number of establishments were found in the suburbs.

Our motto, “We’re Here Because We Care” has been the cornerstone for this business. Proudly on April 4, 1981, the doors opened, and remain open to serve all families. At present, W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home is the only “& daughters” establishment in the state.

In 1997, the W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home underwent a major renovation to better serve the needs of the diverse families it serves.

This family owned and operated full service funeral home prides itself on “SERVING” families.

FYI: Our firm name, “W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home” was chosen because the owners William T. & Doris H. Shumake had daughters and no sons.
